Ways to Apply for a Vietnam Investor Visa

There are two ways for you to obtain a DT visa in Vietnam. One is to get your investor visa in Vietnam and another option is to apply for it in a foreign country.

Below are the details on how you can do it.

1. Apply for an Investor Visa in Vietnam

If you are physically in Vietnam, you can proceed with getting your DT visa in the country with the following steps:

a. Get ready all required documents for visa application:

b. Submit your application along with the required documents to Vietnam’s Immigration Department Office of the city (or the closest city) where your company is based.

c. The authority will issue a Vietnam investor visa to you within 5 business days. The visa will be stamped on your passport.

2. Apply for a Vietnam Investor Visa Overseas

If you are not in Vietnam but your home country, you can choose to obtain your investor visa outside Vietnam.

This option can be divided into two sub-options:

  • Get your investor visa at the Vietnam Embassy or Consulate
  • Get your investor visa upon arrival in Vietnam

Get your investor visa at the Vietnam Embassy or Consulate

a. Prepare the required dossier for your investor visa application:

  • Valid and original passport
  • Temporary residence registration form
  • Form NA5
  • Form NA16
  • Proof of legal status as a foreign investor
  • A certified copy of investment registration certificate or business registration certificate
  • A certificate of seal specimen registration or a publication notice of the seal specimen information

b. Submit your application along with the required documents and visa fee payment to Vietnam’s embassy or consulate in your home country.

c. Once your documents are verified to be complete and valid, you will receive an appointment letter to pick up your investor visa. You can also choose to have your investor visa posted to you by mail.

d. The embassy and consulate will get your investor visa ready in 5 to 7 business days.

Get your investor visa upon arrival in Vietnam

This is only applicable when you arrive in Vietnam by air and receive your visa stamp at Vietnam’s international airport.

Both you and your sponsor have to follow the required procedure:

a. Your sponsor or visa agent in Vietnam needs to prepare all required documents for the application of your Vietnam investor visa:

  • Your passport photo
  • Form NA16
  • Form NA5
  • Proof of legal status as a foreign investor
  • A certified copy of investment registration certificate or business registration certificate
  • A certificate of seal specimen registration or a publication notice of the seal specimen information
  • Temporary residence registration form

b. Submit the application form along with the required documents.

c. Once your documents are verified to be complete and valid, your sponsor or visa agent will receive an appointment letter to pick up your approval letter.

d. Your sponsor or visa agent needs to scan the approval letter and send it to you by email. You must print this approval letter out.

e. Download the investor visa application form that is available online. Then, fill out and print out the completed form.

f. Once you have arrived at Vietnam’s international airport, present two of your passport photos, approval letter, and application form to the immigration.

g. You will get your VOA or landing visa stamped on your passport.

COVID Restrictions in Place

For Q4 2021 Vietnam has officially opened its borders to foreign direct investors with a minimum capital amount. Furthermore they are now accepting specialist business visas if you have been sponsored by a company in Vietnam. Regarding vaccinations and quarantine rules, those are as follows:

  • Visitors must be fully vaccinated against covid up to 14 days and not more than 12 months by the time of entry
  • Visitors will have to complete 7 days in a quarantine hotel upon arrival in Vietnam
  • Visitors will be tested accordingly upon arrival at your quarantine hotel, and upon checking out
